Beginning in the Spring semester 2026, Percussion @ Penn State is launching a *brand new* High School Honors Percussion Ensemble for any currently enrolled High School students. Details about the program can be found at this website.
The High School Honors Percussion Ensemble is an interactive opportunity for currently enrolled High School students to participate in high level percussion chamber music on campus at Penn State’s University Park campus. The program consists of a series of eight rehearsals and two concerts in the School of Music’s state of the art Esber Rehearsal Hall in Music Building I. The rehearsals will include opportunities for the High School student participants to engage in chamber music performance and enhance their learning in specialty percussion areas such as multiple percussion, keyboard percussion, world percussion, and orchestral percussion.
The culminating weekend of the program will include the opportunity to perform side-by-side with Penn State Percussion Students & Faculty as well as the guest artist professional percussion ensemble Sandbox Percussion.Hosted by Percussion @ Penn State, the students will have the opportunity to engage with professional level percussion instruments not normally found in High School band rooms.
The High School Honors Percussion Ensemble is made possible by Percussion @ Penn State, School of Music, College of Arts & Architecture, Forrest Endowment, Percussion Department Endowed Excellence Fund, and the University Park Allocation Committee.
