The MD / DE Percussive Arts Society Day of Percussion was held at Goucher College on February 13. Dr. Hinkle presented a masterclass entitled “Theatrical Music for Solo Percussion.” The masterclass included a performance of Stuart Saunders Smith’s “The Authors” a marimba opera and a discussion of theatrical music for solo percussion in general.
Dr. Hinkle also performed on a masterclass with Janis Potter entitled “Piano Transcriptions for Marimba” in which Ms. Potter discussed the various techniques for transcribing versus arranging piano music for marimba. Ms. Potter and Dr. Hinkle performed Nicholas Wheeler’s “De Falla Fantasy” for marimba duo as part of the class.
